Daler Mehndi Lives!

You want dead horse? On at least two other occasions, dating back to January of 2002, I have mentioned the banghra (Indian pop-techno fusion) song Tunak Tunak Tun, by Daler Mehndi (pictured above). Since then, people looking for a translation of the lyrics have been about my top all-time referral by way of Google. Well, ladies and gentlemen, the wait is over. There is a translation.

Of course, that isn’t to say that this is fine lyricism. I mean, this is pop music. But importantly, the lyrics do mean something, not just “lyrics to fit the beat” as I reported earlier (although this apparently remains true for the title).
